Spread the love

After wrapping up a successful Indian comedy campaign, Vir Das has hit the save button and begun a side quest speed run. The Emmy nominated comedian has been steadily gaining international acclaim—he’s up on the walls of New York’s Comedy Cellar alongside the likes of Bill Burr, Kevin Hart and Sarah Silverman—and is now becoming a familiar face in the US comedy podcast circuit as well. Talk about ‘Wanted’, d*mn! Anyway, if you feel you’re missing out on prime Das, we’ve got you. Here’s a quick list of all the big ticket international podcasts he’s been on recently.

CONAN NEEDS A FRIEND – CONAN O’BRIEN

In January 2023, Das was on Conan O’Brien’s podcast talking about everything from faking appendicitis to get out of school to being booed off stage for 7 weeks straight in a Chicago comedy room post-9/11. Peep this pod to find out the first joke that Das said landed with an audience and a hilarious anecdote about his days as a v-jay for CNBC.

WE MIGHT BE DRUNK PODCAST – MARK NORMAND AND SAM MORRIL

Das shared a Guiness with comedians Mark Normand and Sam Morril on their podcast in January. ‘2 Indias’ comes up right off the bat, but the controversy quickly became a footnote, with the trio discussing Bollywood (and how Das humped a horse in Mastizaade), beer and comedy specials; even trading notes on half-baked jokes by the end of the episode.

CHRISSY CHAOS – CHRIS DISTEFANO

In which—and this is putting it lightly—Chris Distefano absolutely gushes over Das’ latest special Landing. The two share ghost stories, shout out Gandhi (the Indian MLK) and then Das tells Chris about the time he performed at gunpoint. Phew!

MIKE BIRBIGLIA’S WORKING IT OUT – MIKE BIRBIGLIA

This one’s all audio, but teeming with great tid-bits about the craft of comedy! At about the half-way point, Birbiglia and Das strike up a really interesting conversation about generalisations and stereotypes in comedy and when they work. Definitely worth a listen for the standup geeks. PS Mike if you see this, you’re cordially invited to try out your Indian accent on IG Live with us! Find it on Apple podcasts!

BREAKING BREAD – TOM PAPA

In this pod, Tom Papa serves up a fresh loaf of bread to Das. Watch along as the two deep-dive into Das’ standup special and the origins of his acting career. There’s a great anecdote from Das’ college days and the professor that influenced him to try out his luck as an artist in here. An intimate interview in what looks like a booth at an old-school diner? Immaculate vibes!

GOOD FOR YOU PODCAST WITH WHITNEY CUMMINGS – WHITNEY CUMMINGS

On self-love and the Kardashians, the human nature and con-men, and Eat Pray Love and true-crime. Also, Vir Das is quadruple-vaxxed. Good For You veers of the script that most of the other pods stick to, a year old than most of the others but still the freshest pod on the list!
