On 10 January, an hour-long special titled George Carlin: I’m Glad I’m Dead made by comedy AI bot Dudesy was released on YouTube. The special is an impression of the legendary comedian George Carlin, clarified Dudesy in a brief introduction at the beginning of the hour.

Dudesy is also the name of the YouTube channel and podcast hosted by Will Sasso and Chad Kultgen. At the beginning of the special, the AI bot clarified that it “listened to all of George Carlin’s material and did my best to imitate his voice, cadence and attitude as well as the subject matter I think would have interested him today.”

The special covers various topics which Carlin might have addressed in his material if he was around today, including school shootings, artificial intelligence and social media.

The release of the special has drawn the ire of the late comedian’s daughter Kelly Carlin, who made a statement on X shortly after its release. “My dad spent a lifetime perfecting his craft from his very human life, brain and imagination. No machine will ever replace his genius. These AI generated products are clever attempts at trying to recreate a mind that will never exist again,” she said. “Let’s let the artist’s work speak for itself. Humans are so afraid of the void that we can’t let what has fallen into it stay there.”
