Kanan Gill didn’t spend the entire summer on the road (just) so he could send you digital postcards from Australia and the States with his “rgds”.
The North America tour of his standup special Teetar (being taped for Netflix this Sunday in Bangalore*) sold out 20 shows in 16 cities. And if the smashing reviews of his observational hour “on Julius Caesar’s death, marching to bands and building societies” are anything to go by, the big news is more than well deserved:
Gill just signed with California-based talent agency, United Talent Agency (UTA) for his international shows.
UTA’s clients are some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, boasting a giant comedy roster with a long list of international stars—including Russell Peters, Hannah Gadsby, Ali Wong, Seth Meyers, BJ Novak, Bo Burnham, Demetri Martin, Eric Andre, Patton Oswalt, Tig Notaro, Will Ferrell… and *drum roll* Kanan Gill!
Indian comics are now regulars at international comedy festivals and tour circuits. Getting the right representation, therefore, is crucial in ensuring they have strong promoters to help them reach the right venues and audiences.
Indian comics are now regulars at international comedy festivals and tour circuits. Getting the right representation, therefore, is crucial in ensuring they have strong promoters to help them reach the right venues and audiences. Coupled with the fact that there are far more opportunities than ever before for TV and streaming services as well, an agency like UTA is primed to offer Gill maximum exposure for all of the above. Meanwhile, OML continues to exclusively manage Gill in India.
There’s big news coming up for three other Indian artists being repped abroad as well. This will place them with the likes of Adam Sandler, Aziz Ansari, Amy Poehler, Amy Schumer, Anthony Jeselnik, Bill Burr, Hasan Minhaj, Kevin Hart, Ray Romano, Steve Martin, Tina Fey, Whoopi Goldberg, and Zach Galifianakis. Stay tuned for the official announcement. (Wild guesses welcome!)
*Catch the live taping of Kanan Gill’s ‘Teetar’ on 4 August at 4 pm and 8 pm in Bangalore.
