Comedian Nalin Yadav posted a video last night recounting a disturbing incident in which he and his brother were allegedly beaten up by four unknown men in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh. In the 15-minute-long video we can see Yadav’s hand in bandages. The comedian mentions that he will need to undergo surgery to avoid amputation of his finger.
Yadav says that he was walking his dog at night when two men on a bike rode aggressively towards him. After a small argument, Yadav noticed two other men approaching and went back into his home. He then mentions that a lady guided those men to his house. They started pelting stones at the window telling him to come out of the house. The comedian made calls to the police and his friends for help.
In the meantime, Yadav’s brother returned home. The aggressors started beating him up due to which Yadav rushed out to help him. The four men started to disperse once they saw a crowd gathering. However, Yadav’s friends managed to capture one of the perpetrators. While waiting for the police, Yadav went through the aggressor’s phone to find out that he was being instructed via call as to where he could find the comedian.
At the police station, Yadav was allegedly unable to file an FIR. He alleges that the inspector said he was tired of Yadav’s complaints and advised him to leave. Eventually, Yadav was able to file a NCR (non-cognisable report), under which the aggressor might not even get jail time. Yadav alleges that the police also didn’t accept an X-ray of his broken finger, even after he urged them to attach it in his file.
“Main haar chuka hoon zindagi mein,” says a defeated Yadav towards the end of the video. His final message is that he needs all the support he can get to put an end to what he’s been going through.
Yadav has been under distress since 2021 when he was arrested alongside comedian Munawar Faruqui in Indore and spent 58 days in judicial custody. In 2023, goons had broken his brother’s leg and last year Yadav shared another account of being beaten up.
In a 2022 interview with DeadAnt, Yadav had spoken about how performing comedy was becoming harder for him by the day. The comedian—who had helped kick-start the comedy scene in Indore—was forced to move to Delhi in the aftermath of the incident. But producers were still wary of putting him on a lineup, he told us at the time. To clear the debts that Yadav and his younger brother had incurred while he was in jail, he started working as a daily wage labourer. Yadav is still struggling to find stage time or a stable job.
