Veteran comedian Dave Chappelle will be returning to our screens on 5 October with his latest Netflix special The Closer. The teaser for the specialโhis sixth with Netflixโdropped last night on the streaming platform’s Twitter page and YouTube channel.
The comedian addresses the long-standing discussion about what comedians can and cannot joke about at the beginning of the 30-second teaser. “Comedians have a responsibility to speak recklessly,” he says. “Sometimes the funniest thing to say is mean. Remember, Iโm not saying it to be mean: Iโm saying it because itโs funny.”
The Closerโas the title hintsโmight be the last one in his ongoing run of Netflix specials. “This standup special completes a body of work which includes: The Age of Spin, Deep in the Heart of Texas, Equanimity, The Bird Revelation and Sticks & Stones,” Netflix said in a press release.
Chappelle’s work with the steaming giant has received critical acclaim, picking up five Emmy Awards including three for his specials Sticks & Stones, Equanimity and The Bird Revelation.
The winner of the prestigious Mark Twain Prize for American Humour also successfully renegotiated the return of his iconic sketch comedy series Chappelle’s Show on Netflix following contract disputes earlier this year.
