The most-watched standup special on Netflix in the first six months of 2024 was Dave Chappelle’s controversial outing The Dreamer, according to a new engagement report by the streaming giant. Released on New Year’s Eve, the special attracted 17.4 million views, making it the 45th most-watched programme on Netflix globally.

The Dreamer was one of 25 comedy specials released on the platform in the six-month period, as compared to 12 in the second half of 2023. Katt William’s Woke Foke (10.3 million views) came in second, followed by Kevin Hart’s acceptance ceremony for the Mark Twain Prize for American Humour (7.1 million). Beautiful Dogs by Shane Gillis (6.1 million) and Ready To Sell Out by Mike Epps (5.9 million) rounded out the top 5.

Another comedy highlight was The Roast of Tom Brady, featuring Kevin Hart, Nikki Glaser, Sam Jay and Jeff Ross, which racked up 22.4 million views, ranking at #26 on the overall list.

There was disappointment, however, for a few big-name comedians who weren’t able to crack the top 500—including Pete Davidson’s Turbo Fonzarelli, Neal Brennan’s Crazy Good and Jimmy Carr’s Natural Born Killer.
