After a year-and-a-half-long hiatus on his YouTube channel, comedian Praveen Kumar has finally surfaced on the website, this time with a massive offering. He’s trying to make up for the lost time with his brand new special Family Man Returns. Released on 15 August, the show, which has amassed 2,20,000 views, is available for free and people can contribute under the pay-as-you-like model.

Dubbed as the second part to his 2020 special Mr. Family Man (available on Amazon Prime Video), the new Tamil-language special includes riffs on the struggles and domestic dilemmas faced by the common man. In addition to this, Praveen is also trying to make a larger pointโ€”wives are usually smarter than husbands.

“Usually what happens is, as a family man, we take up various responsibilities,” he told DeadAnt. “But without your wife’s advice nothing goes right. So I talk about how my wife is part of all the decisions I make. And how wives stop us husbands from falling prey to a scam or something equally stupid. That’s the underlying theme of the show.”

Finally, Praveen also gives some insight into how his life has changed since he moved from Bengaluru to Chennai during the pandemic and the challenges that came with relocating such as finding a decent school for his child or renting a house. “I came to the city along with the virus,” he laughs.

This special comes after an extensive 20-month-long tour during which the comedian performed 81 shows in 13 different countries and 53 cities. The special was recorded during the 63rd show, he tells us.

The comedian is also keen on bringing the entire family together to enjoy standup comedy with Family Man Returns. He’s got a little something for everyone in this 70-minute special. “The idea of the show is to make sure all the family members can sit, watch and have fun together,” he adds. “Right from the grandparents to the grandchildren, anybody can watch the show and take something away from it. They’ll all relate to some aspect of the show.”

With the release of Family Man Returns in his rear-view mirror, Praveen is now looking forward to building his next hour. The comedian is going to hit the road once again with a brand new show starting 1 September in Chennai.

“Once again, it’s a family-friendly show that will include various stories from different stages of my life,” said Praveen. “The show is more or less ready. After these tester shows, the actual launch will happen in Bengaluru on 19 October. And then I have dates planned for Pondicherry, Coimbatore, Chennai, Madurai and Hyderabad. Next year I’ll do some international shows along with more in India.”

The comedian is keeping the name of the show under wraps for now. But if you don’t want to be in the dark, go for his tester shows next month. You can book your tickets here.
