The ongoing controversy over Ranveer Allahbadia’s comments on Samay Raina’s India’s Got Latent has cast a chilling effect on Indian comedy. Last week, Anubhav Singh Bassi and BhaDiPa’s Sarang Sathaye were forced to cancel shows after facing backlash for using explicit language. Now, comedian Harsh Gujral has taken down all the episodes of his YouTube show The Escape Room, which also featured dark humour and explicit themes.
Launched in December 2024, Escape Room featured a confession box where guests anonymously shared their deepest, darkest secrets. Gujral and other comedians would then “give a lighter twist to their guilt and misery.”
Only two episodes of the show had been released, but both have now been removed from YouTube. The show’s Instagram account has also gone private. The comedian, who made his Bollywood debut today with a role in Mudassar Aziz’s Mere Husband Ki Biwi, has yet to comment on the episodes’ deletion.
