Comedian Kunal Kamra performed at The Underground Comedy Club in Koramangala on August 2 under heavy police security after opposition from a Hindutva organisation led to a rescheduling of the show and a venue change for his remaining Bengaluru performances, reported The News Minute. Attendees passed through police barricades, frisking and security checks before entering the venue, where Karnataka State Reserve Police personnel and Bengaluru city police officers were deployed.

The show was originally scheduled for 1 August before being pushed to 2 August. Kamra’s remaining Bengaluru performances, meanwhile, have been shifted from URU in Whitefield to The Underground Comedy Club in Koramangala.

The changes came after the Hindu Rashtra Samanvaya Samiti submitted a memorandum to the Bengaluru Police seeking the cancellation of Kamra’s Whitefield shows. The organisation alleged that remarks made by the comedian during a recent performance had hurt Hindu religious sentiments and argued that allowing the shows to go ahead could disturb law and order and communal harmony.

Kamra later announced the venue change on social media, informing ticket holders for the Whitefield shows that they would receive refunds and could book fresh tickets for the Koramangala performances instead.

According to The News Minute, Kamra acknowledged the security arrangements at the end of his set, thanking the Bengaluru Police before concluding the performance. Bengaluru Police has not publicly commented on either the memorandum seeking cancellation of the shows or the security arrangements made for the event.
