Kunal Kamra took to X to respond to the show cause notice issued by the Maharashtra legislature’s privileges committee. “Show-cause notice is your privilege. Jokes are my right,” he wrote. Kamra as well as UBT Shiv Sena leader Sushma Andhare received the notice in response to the comments they made about deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde.

“I moved the proposal on Friday. It has been accepted by everyone. It has now gone for legal opinion. Soon thereafter, the show cause notice will be sent to both of them by the police,” said Prasad Lad, BJP MLC and the chairperson of the committee.

The committee will now send them a questionnaire via the Deputy Commissioner of Police, requesting written responses within 15 days. Failure to comply will attract additional notices. If the respondents do not respond to three notices, the committee can can direct the police to arrest them, said Lad.

“The respondent can choose to apologise, or be represented by a lawyer if we give them the permission to, or put forth their side by themselves. Whatever decision the committee takes thereafter, is the final decision. Even the courts have no jurisdiction in the matter,” he said.
