Standup comedian and Bigg Boss 17 winner Munawar Faruqui has landed in legal trouble once again, this time over his new JioHotstar show Hafta Vasooli. New Delhi advocate Amita Sachdeva has filed an official complaint against the comedian, alleging that the show “insulted multiple religions” and promoted “vulgarity.” Sachdeva shared details of the complaint on X, posting screenshots of an email requesting an FIR under BNS sections 196, 299 and 353, as well as the IT Act an other relevant laws.

Sachdeva also called Faruqui a “habitual offender”, referring to the comedian’s earlier brushes with the law. On 1 January, 2021, Faruqui was allegedly assaulted during a show in Indore by a group of men led by Eklavya Singh Gaur, the son of a BJP MLA, who accused the comedian of making jokes about Hindu deities and Home Minister Amit Shah. Faruqui and four others were also arrested by the Madhya Pradesh police, and the comedian spent over a month in jail before being granted bail.

Over the past few years, Faruqui has been forced to cancel multiple shows due to threats by right-wing political activists—including one of self-immolation—and has also allegedly been targeted for assassination by gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
