Comedians Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears have been accused of child sexual abuse, according to a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles. Two anonymous siblings have accused the comedians of making them participate in sexually suggestive videos in 2013 and 2014, when the complainants were aged 14 and 7 respectively.
According to CNN, the complaint refers to an incident in 2013, when Haddishโwhom the lawsuit calls a “family friend” of the complaints’ mothersโdrove the 14-year-old girl to a studio where she and Spears showed her a suggestive video of a man and a woman eating a sandwich from both ends while making “sexual noises”, and then asked her to mimic what she had seen on screen.
The complaint also mentions a 2014 skit titled Through A Pedophile’s Eyes, in which Spears makes sexual advances towards the seven-year-old boy while R. Kelly’s ‘Bump and Grind’ plays in the background. Haddish plays the boy’s mother in the skit, which was removed in 2018 by Funny or Die who called it “absolutely disgusting”.
According to CNN, the complaint claims that the siblings were tricked into participating in both the skits.
Haddish issued a statement last night via her Instagram page, condemning the skits and reiterating their comedic intention. โI know people have a bunch of questions. I get it. Iโm right there with you. Unfortunately, because there is an ongoing legal case, thereโs very little that I can say right now. But, clearly, while this sketch was intended to be comedic, it wasnโt funny at allโand I deeply regret having agreed to act in it. I really look forward to being able to share a lot more about this situation as soon as I can.โ
Haddishโs lawyer Andrew Brettler, in a statement to Vanity Fair downplayed the legal ramifications of the case, citing previous failed attempts by Trizah Morris, the plaintiff’s mother to sue Haddish. โEvery attorney who has initially taken on her caseโand there were severalโultimately dropped the matter once it became clear that the claims were meritless and Ms Haddish would not be shaken down. Now, Ms. Morris has her adult daughter representing herself in this lawsuit. The two of them will together face the consequences of pursuing this frivolous action.โ
