“Everything’s back in New York, baby!” The comedy scene in the city is slowly getting back to its usual hustle and comedian Sam Morril is offering an early glimpse into its post-pandemic future in his new documentary Full Capacity. The comedian, who has been performing in the city for almost a decade, “knew what comedy clubs were” before the lockdown and he wanted to see if getting back on stage is still the same.
“Iโm proud of what we did here. I think we captured some really great moments. @salacuse directed this (as well as my rooftop special) and Iโm grateful for his friendship and dedication to making quality, outside the box stuff. Also, glad as hell Iโm not waiting on any clueless executives to green-light this or tell me what parts are problematic. This is the way for me,” Morril said on Instagram.
Directed by Matthew Salacuse, the trailer for the documentary features a host of comedians including Mark Normand, Dave Attell, Taylor Tomlinson, Sal Vulcano, Rachel Feinstein, Ray Romano and Chris Distefano. The documentary will premiere on Morril’s YouTube channel next week.
This isn’t the comedian’s first independent project. While most comics were locked up in their homes for over a year, Morril found a way to do what he loves mostโstandup comedy. He did various rooftop shows and even brought along a crew to film his special Up on the Roof which he released independently in November last year. In a recent Instagram story, Morril hinted that another YouTube comedy special was also in the works.
