The Last Laugh: DeadAnt’s Year In Review

By Rohan Krishnan 27 December 2024 5 mins read

Here’s DeadAnt’s 2024 year in review, served up in glorious, excruciating detail. Enjoy.

Spread the love

This year, DeadAnt hit the ground running—and somewhere along the way, we must’ve caught a runner’s high because we never stopped. From expanding live entertainment to using comedy as a catalyst for social change, we’ve spent 2024 doing what we do best: breaking ground, pushing boundaries, and making people laugh (our all-time favourite).

Let’s start with The DeadAnt Loop, our bold move to make India a regular stop on the global comedy circuit. Big names? Check. Bigger laughs? Double-check. And bigger audiences? Oh, absolutely. Then there’s Laughs Per Minute: The Breathless Edition, our proprietary fast-paced, laugh-out-loud show that takes on climate change and air pollution. Comedy with a conscience? Yes, please. It’s the kind of format that leaves audiences in splits—and more importantly, makes them care.

Meanwhile, DeadAnt Studio has been firing on all cylinders, working with major clients to tackle ambitious, high-stakes creative briefs. The result? Work that’s sharp, impactful, and pulsing with the irreverent energy that defines DeadAnt. We put our teams through the ultimate stress test—and they emerged funnier, sharper, and more unstoppable than ever. (And who really needs hair anyway?)

Speaking of teams, the DeadAnt army has grown. New faces, fresh ideas, and next-level energy have taken us to new heights this year, with 150K Instagram followers to prove it (thank you, DA Fam).

We could say, “What a year,” but let’s be honest—we’re just getting warmed up. For now, though, we’re hitting pause to take a victory lap. Here’s DeadAnt’s 2024 year in review, served up in glorious, excruciating detail. Enjoy.

THE DEADANT LOOP

First things first, The DeadAnt Loop was born this year. An initiative by DeadAnt Live, the Loop offers unparalleled live experiences across the country with comedy from around the world. In our founder Ravina Rawal’s own words: “‘The DeadAnt Loop’ is the embodiment of DeadAnt Live’s ambition to create space for laughter, provocative comedy, and cultural dialogue throughout India, which we are sure will resonate with both the seasoned comedy super-fan and the curious newcomer. At the very least, it’ll give you something to laugh/cry/complain about on social media.”

THE BIGGEST TOUR OF INDIA BY AN INTERNATIONAL COMEDIAN – DANIEL SLOSS

We wanted to make a statement with our first outing under The DeadAnt Loop, so we roped in international comedy sensation Daniel Sloss to join us for a mammoth eight-city tour with 10 back to back shows—the biggest tour India has ever seen by a comedian from abroad. Sloss took his special Can’t across the country in March, with performances in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Goa, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata.

LAUGHS PER MINUTE: BREATHLESS EDITION

DeadAnt Live teamed up with social and environmental impact advisor Asar to raise awareness about the concerning AQI levels, for a very special showcase of DeadAnt’s proprietary show Laughs Per Minute: The Breathless Edition. Rahul Dua was on hosting duties as 20+ comedians rattled off punchlines about air pollution in one-minute sets at Delhi’s Shri Ram Centre For Performing Arts. The event aimed to start a meaningful conversation on the topic of air pollution and bring about positive change. Safe to say, we were gasping for air for all the right reasons.

THE LOOP 2: THE FIRST TOUR OF INDIA BY ANTHONY JESELNIK

The second edition of The DeadAnt Loop featured international comedy superstar Anthony Jeselnik, who came to India for the first time ever! The comedian performed his show Bones And All—now an hour long comedy special on Netflix—in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru from 8-10 August 2024. The tour was a resounding success—Jeselnik even offered to tell any comedian of India’s choice to come to the country for another edition of The Loop.

THE DEADANT COMEDY AWARDS 2024

In 2023, Indian comedians took the world by storm, performing to iconic sold-out venues and receiving laurels wherever they went (even Côte d’Ivoire). So, the latest edition of DACA was bound to be hotly contested, and it was! With these awards, we celebrated and highlighted the best of Indian standup from 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2023.

SOCIAL MEDIA MANDATE FOR AUDIBLE, AMAZON

DeadAnt Studio was appointed as the social media marketing partner for Amazon company, Audible India; a leader in the online audiobook and podcast market in India. DeadAnt Studio secured the retainer mandate after a competitive multi-agency pitch and has overseen a complete brand refresh for the company. Since receiving the mandate, we have been busy crafting innovative campaigns to amplify the brand’s presence and expand its reach to a broader audience. We also helped Audible launch its new off-shoot: Audible Kids.

CREATIVE PRODUCTION FOR NETFLIX

DeadAnt Studio added another feather to its cap this year with marketing creative production work for title marketing assets of Netflix India. We’ve created digital hoardings and digital media assets for the likes of Heeramandi, Chamkila,The Buried Truth, Squid Games 2, Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba and The Kapil Sharma Show.

DREAM 11 SHORTS

DeadAnt also secured India’s first unicorn fantasy sports platform Dream11 as a client, packaging and creating multiple short format video series for their in-app users.

THE LOOP 3: RUSSELL HOWARD

After bringing Daniel Sloss and Anthony Jeselnik to India, we also announced our upcoming tour with a third comedy heavyweight. English comedian Russell Howard is coming to India next February as part of his biggest world tour yet, and will be touring with his show Russell Howard Live. The UK comedy sensation will be hitting up Mumbai and Bengaluru on 8 and 9 February.

DOR TV SOCIAL MEDIA MANDATE AND LAUNCH FILMS

We were extremely excited when we received the social media mandate for India’s first-ever subscription TV service. Streambox Media’s Dor TV, with its 24+ OTT platforms, 300+ TV channels (and YouTube, never forget YouTube) and 43″ QLED 4K resolution TV promises to be a game-changer in the home entertainment industry. Not only did we bag the social media mandate for the product, we also played a pivotal part in its launch. The launch campaign—spearheaded by superstar influencers Aaditya Kulushreshth and Danish Sait—is another notch in our belt. Looks like it was a success; Dor TV sold out its initial stock within 12 hours of its launch.

THE CLIMATE PARTY

If Laughs Per Minute didn’t already give you the hint, we’ll just spell it out for you. DeadAnt loves the environment and everything to do with it. We’re committed to using the arts, especially comedy, to make a difference, and this effort is championed by our CEO and founder Ravina Rawal, who was invited to speak at The Climate Party – Mumbai. The eighth edition of the Mumbai Climate Party saw Rawal, along with actor Aalekh Kapoor and Antkind CEO Mairu Gupta teach patrons the art of narrative building for climate solutions.

AWARDS GALORE

Founder and CEO Ravina Rawal was presented the Hungama Game Changers 2024 award for her impact—through DeadAnt’s digital presence, creative studio and live events division—in the media and entertainment industry. That’s not all, she also picked up a Femina Fab 65 nod for her trailblazing journey through India’s print and digital media landscape.
