At the Supreme Court hearing yesterday following the India’s Got Latent controversy, the bench took the opportunity to highlight its displeasure with comedian Samay Raina’s remarks at one of his shows in Canada. During a performance in Edmonton, Raina quipped about the ongoing controversy and thanked the audience for buying tickets and funding his legal battle. “Mera samay kharab chal raha hai lekin yaad rakhna doston—main Samay hoon,” he said, according to a post made by an attendee.

Justice Surya Kant addressed this comment yesterday. “These youngsters are being over smart,” he said. “They probably think we are an outdated generation. One of them has gone to Canada and what he has spoken there is well known to us. They don’t know the jurisdiction which this court enjoys and what probably can be done. We don’t want to because they are young and hope they will behave like responsible people. Otherwise we know how to deal with these people.”

This comment came as the court was hearing the matter regarding the resumption of Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast The Ranveer Show. They have given the creator permission to get back to programming as long as he respects “morality and decency” and the content is suitable for all ages.
