The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards had a new comedy king. Apple TV+’s Widow’s Bay picked up six awards during the main ceremony, adding to the eight Creative Arts Emmys it won last weekend, for a total of 14 wins—surpassing The Studio’s record of 13 from last year to become the most awarded comedy series in a single Emmy year.

The horror-comedy took home Outstanding Comedy Series, with Matthew Rhys winning Lead Actor, Stephen Root and Kate O’Flynn winning in the supporting acting categories, and Hiro Murai and Katie Dippold taking home Emmys for directing and writing respectively.

Hacks star Jean Smart won Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for the fifth consecutive year for her portrayal of Deborah Vance. With the win, Smart became the first woman to win the category for every season of a show’s run—an especially fitting way to close out Hacks, which ended with its fifth season.

Matthew Rhys also had a historic night. Alongside his win for Widow’s Bay, he picked up Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for The Beast in Me, becoming the first performer to win two lead acting Emmys on the same night. His earlier Emmy win for The Americans also makes him the first man to win lead acting Emmys across all three major categories: drama, comedy and limited series.
