Indian comedy superstar Zakir Khan made a shocking announcement on 18 January during his show in Hyderabad. The comedian, who is currently on tour with his show Papa Yaar, told his fans that he will be taking an extended break from standup comedy.
“I’m going on a long, long break. Till 2028–29 probably… 2030 probably,” he’s seen saying in a clip that is making the rounds on Instagram. “Chaar-paanch saal ka break hai. Health wagairah sambhal lenge. Do-teen cheezein hai, usmein woh sab theek karni hai humko.”
Khan further confirmed this impending hiatus from the stage with an Instagram story earlier this afternoon. “Every show is a celebration till 20th June,” he wrote. “Mai bahut sheher nahi aa paunga, iss bar aap thoda takaluf utha kar aa jaiye. Thank you for the love.”
The comedian had made a similar announcement last year citing health concerns and taken a short break. After a decade of constantly being on the road and touring to different parts of the globe Khan had shared a candid update and admitted that he had felt unwell for over a year but kept going because “zaruri tha uss waqt.”
Khan is currently winding up the India leg of his tour before he travels to Dubai, Dublin and the United States to close out the tour.
