Comedy fans are in for a special treat during Amazonโ€™s annual Prime Day event, with Amazon Prime Video announcing a day-long laugh-a-thon featuring 14 standup comedians from across the country. The Prime Day Special will consist of ten minute Hindi/English comedy sets by the lineup of 14 artists, including  Sapan Verma, Urooj Ashfaq, Nishant Tanwar, Anubhav Bassi, Rahul Dua, Nishant Suri, Shreeja Chaturvedi, Rahul Subramaniam, Sumukhi Suresh, Neeti Palta, Karthik Kumar, Sumit Saurav, Gaurav Kapoor and Aishwarya Mohanraj. The sets will be released on Amazon Prime Video between 10am to 11pm on 7 August (Prime Day), with a new set coming out every hour.

โ€œItโ€™s all brand new material, I had a lot of fun with a couple of characters I did,โ€ says Suresh, speaking about her set for the Prime Day Special. โ€œI hope [it] is a good showcase of Indian comedy, and Iโ€™m glad to just get to do some jokes.โ€

“We’re all missing the stage, we’re all missing doing comedy,” adds Rahul Subramanian, who’s done a piece-to-camera on wrestling for the special. “And it’s great initiative by a brand like Amazon to come in and give us the opportunity to express ourselves within the constraints we’re dealing with right now.”

The Prime Day Special will be released under Amazon Funnies, the streaming platformโ€™s comedy banner that was announced this March. It also signals Amazonโ€™s continuing investment in the Indian comedy space, coming hot on the heels of Zakir Khanโ€™s three-special deal with the platform. Amazonโ€™s comedy portfolio also includes specials by Biswa Kalyan Rath, Ashish Shakya, Sumukhi suresh, Nishant Tanwar, Rohan Joshi, Anu Menon and Neeti Palta, as well as the comedy competition series Comicstaan. Pro-tip: they also offer an excellent way to distract yourself from those incredibly tempting Prime Day deals.
