There’s no such thing as “too many podcasts”. At least Amit Tandon seems to think so. That’s why the comedian has decided to enter the oversaturated podcasting ring with his brand new show Chaar Yaar. Premiering on 10 October, Tandon will be joined with three guests in each episode of the weekly podcast. Tandon’s major goal with the podcast is to make the green room conversations him and his comic friends have available for the audience.

“Most of the time, podcasts are about people trying to understand life, figuring out motivation, getting gyaan…things like that,” he told us. “This one has no gyaan. No motivation to give to people. It’s just us sitting and talking to each other. I find the green room discussions very interesting. I love hearing their point of views on various things. I think the people might want like to listen to it too.”

The first season will consist of 21 episodes and feature over 30 comedians including Tanmay Bhat, Prashasti Singh, Karunesh Talwar, Aditi Mittal, Rahul Dua, Harsh Gujral, Zakir Khan, Anubhav Singh Bassi, Varun Grover, Abhishek Upmanyu. Aashish Solanki and Gurleen Pannu.

“My criteria was that I wanted to get people who I have already met,” said Tandon. “Mainly because this isn’t an exploratory podcast where I learn about their life. The idea is to pick up any random topic and talk to friends like we usually do.”

These topics range from Bollywood to personal life to financial security, Tandon told us. After discussing the subject briefly, the guests will pick out questions related to the discussion from a bowl and address them. “In the process fans will get to hear some personal stories and opinions of their favourite comics that they probably wouldn’t say in our comedy,” Tandon added. “You’ll see the thinking side of comedians in the process. It’s not just all laughs constantly. There are some serious moments that came up while discussing certain topics and we did that extremely comfortably.”

This isn’t Tandon’s first redeo though. The comedian had previously hosted the Spotify Original podcast Andar Ki Baat in which he spoke with professionals from various industries to understand how these services that we avail work. In the process, Tandon realised one thing—the conversation becomes a lot easier when the guest is a storyteller.

“Most of these people had never spoken about these things in an interview,” he told us. “So we really had to dig deep to get some interesting bits. It’s understandable because they aren’t storytellers per se. But in this podcast, I’m joined by people who understand the flow of conversation, they know where to add a punchline, what the premise is. That’s the major learning that I took from my previous project.”

A new episode of Chaar Yaar will release every week starting 10 October.
