“Gassed” by his wife on date night last week, American rapper, singer, songwriter, actor and activist Chance the Rapper took stage at a comedy open mic at Laugh Factory in Chicago.

In a video he shared on his Instagram, we see Chance run smoothly through a three-minute impromptu bit, asking Black people what they have in mind when they refer to “the proverbial cookout that we’ve been planning for so long”.

“It’s gonna be terrible!”, he suggests, before being heckled by a guy in the audience. Channelling Reggie Warrington from The Nutty Professor, he takes him on, “I’m gonn’ beat you up… this is my time!”

Seconds later, the rapper realises that the guy was suggesting the cookout would be terrible because it’d probably have darts, and generously gives him props for coming up with a “good one”.

That caption tho’

For a guy telling (intentional) jokes on stage for the first time, and not being thrown by an unexpected heckler, we thought that was pretty damn impressive.
