Charlamagne tha God (Lenard Larry McKelvey) is all set to join the late-night TV club with his new weekly talk show Tha God’s Honest Truth With Lenard “Charlamagne” McKelvey, which premieres on Comedy Central on 17 September. The co-host of the popular radio morning show The Breakfast Club will bring his unique—and somewhat provocative—observations and contrarian opinions on daily news, headlines, trends and pop culture to the small screen in this weekly half-hour show.

Produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, the series will feature McKelvey unpack “the most pressing topics permeating politics and culture” through “deep dives, sketches, and social experiments.” A press announcement for the show described it as “redemptively comedic, refreshingly unfiltered, and unapologetically Black” with nothing “off limits”.

The show also marks Stephen Colbert’s return to Comedy Central—which he hinted at in a teaser video earlier this week—as an executive producer on the show. McKelvey will also be reuniting with Chris McCarthy, an old friend from his MTV days who now serves as the president-CEO of MTV Entertainment Group.

“This is one of those moments where I can show you better than I can tell you,” McKelvey said in a statement. “This is the third talk show Chris McCarthy has done with me and those shows prepared me for this opportunity.” The host also declared his “South Carolina brethren Stephen Colbert” as “the ultimate co-sign in the late night space” and announced, “We are going to win an Emmy next year for best lighting direction I can feel it!!!”

McKelvey’s “thought-provoking and uninhibited observations both get under people’s skin and open their minds which is why we are thrilled to be doing this show with him and equally thrilled to welcome back the Dean of Late Night to Comedy Central, Mr. Stephen Colbert,” said McCarthy.
