On Sunday evening, comedian Chris Rock tweeted that he had tested positive for COVID-19, adding “trust me you don’t want this. Get vaccinated.” Rock’s tweet comes amidst growing discontent in the US for lockdown measures and distrust in vaccines, their makers, and the supposed side-effects of vaccines.
Rock’s warning and support of the vaccination is in stark contrast with comedian Joe Rogan’s opinion on the issue. Rogan’s musings on lockdowns and vaccination mandates are of significance because they’re heard by listeners of his tremendously popular Spotify podcast across the world. Nicki Minaj had also claimed (erroneously) she heard the vaccine may cause one’s testicles to swell, resulting in impotence and reserved her judgment on getting the vaccine till she did more research.
In a time of uncertainty, Rock has stepped up to become the vaccination poster boy, referring to himself as ‘Two-shots Rock’ on The Tonight Show. Rock even told Jimmy Fallon that he used his stardom to jump the queue and get his hands on the vaccine before others. “I used my celebrity, Jimmy,” Rock stated. “I didn’t care. I was like, ‘Hey, step aside Betty White, step aside old people… I did Pootie Tang. Let me on the front of the line.’”
