Fatima Ayesha is having the time of her life touring all across the country with her show Koi Nahi Dekhega. We’ll have to wait and see if her attempt at reverse psychology (in the title) works out, but we’re rooting for her! Ayesha has already kicked off the tour with a show in Pune and plans to go everywhere from Delhi to Odisha over the next two months. Hereโs everything you need to know before you grab a ticket to the engineer-turned-comedianโs show!
QUICK! WHATโS THIS SHOW ABOUT?
Simply put, it’s a tragicomedy based on my very real life story.
HOW MANY SHOWS ARE YOU DOING, ACROSS HOW MANY CITIES?
Just like last year, I’ll be doing a 20-25 city tour including cities in Delhi, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, Telangana, Rajasthan and more. The fact that I love travelling and planning tours myself helps a lot.
HOW LONG DID YOU SPEND WRITING THE SHOW?
I have been planning it in my head for two years. But I started writing it sincerely in May. I strongly believe that laziness brings out my best work.
IS THIS ALREADY LEADING UP TO A RECORDED SPECIAL FOR A STREAMING PLATFORM?
This show is not made for the internet! I will release a 10 to 15-minute internet-friendly part of the show online next year. The rest of the show is too personal to give away to any platform. I am writing a second OTT-friendly show in case something comes my way. I love being prepared!
WHY SHOULD WE WATCH IT LIVE?
More than a standup comedy show Koi Nahi Dekhega is a movie! There is romance, drama, comedy, crime, mystery and thrill. I am completely honest on stage about my opinions on religion, identity, marriage and gender roles. It’s the show I always wanted to see but I didnโt see anyone else doing it.
ACCORDING TO YOU, WHO WOULD BE THE IDEAL PLUS-ONE TO BRING TO THE LIVE SHOW?
Someone who loves funny gossip because my show has a lot of it. Basically your friend, family, colleague, date, anyone! Gossiping is bonding.
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME โKOI NAHI DEKHEGAโ?
I did that as a joke thinking no one will come watch my show. Now that the show is doing well, I am changing the name soon, mummy swear. Wait, how about Mummy Swear as a name? Argh! I donโt know.
ON A SCALE OF 1 โ WTFAMIDOING, HOW NERVOUS ARE YOU?
I’m not nervous at all. I’m truly having the best time of my life. I’m just finding ways to have more fun with it. I’ll be doing the same solo show in Marathi in August. I’m also learning a musical instrument so that I can add a song or two to the show.
DO YOU COLLECT ANYTHING AS SOUVENIRS FROM COMEDY CLUBS WHEN YOU ARE OUT TOURING?
I have made a lot of friends through comedy across India. They always give me something small to take back home; notebooks, books and pens. A friend in Bengaluru gave me a sipper because I tend to waste too much time on stage opening my water bottle.
IS THERE ANYTHING YOU MISS ABOUT YOUR ENGINEERING DAYS?
Strong no! Glad it’s over.
