Miserable Mondays. Manhoos Monday. Monday Blues. So many terms associated with the dread that accompanies the start of the week. A recent HuffPost article mentioned that most people’s moods are at their lowest on Mondays and it can take a massive toll. If you are one of those afflicted, we’re here to make things slightly easier with our DeadAnt Weekly Roundup where we highlight the week’s funniest YouTube uploads.

This week, Azeem Banatwalla takes on airlines and propaganda films in a double barrel entry, while Rahul Dua has some observations he wants to share from his recent US trip. Devesh Dixit draws parallels between monkeys, fathers and IT cell employees, while American comedians Skylar Higley and Cristela Alonzo share some personal stories that will have you on the floor.

Devesh Dixit – Bandar

Devesh Dixit is always on top form, and his latest video—titled Bandar—is a comparative study of monkeys, fathers and IT cell employees. With an inventive hypothetical, Dixit links biological history to Indian kids’ anger at their fathers, and the leading cause for IT cell recruitment. Crowd work comedians catch some strays in this 13-minute laugh riot.

Azeem Banatwalla – Don’t Go First And Kerala Story

Azeem Banatwalla has been juggling podcasting and standup like a pro lately. In addition to the weekly 4-4-Two episode which Banatwalla co-hosts with Neville Shah and Kautuk Srivastava, the comedian has dropped two standup videos in the last week. Ek se bhale do after all, right?

Banatwalla brings his his trademark observational humour to topical news on both Don’t Go First and Kerala Story. In the first, he is talking about the one airline service that Indian flyers hate—Go First. Banatwalla offers some insight into how not to name your airlines in this bite-sized 5-minute clip.

On his second offering of the week, Banatwalla turns his satirical gaze towards India’s most-discussed movie of the last month, The Kerala Story. He describes the journey of self-discovery the movie took him on, revealing parts of his psyche that most people would need psychedelic drugs for. He has a great bit about the oxymoron that is love jihad. Check it out now!

Rahul Dua –  Timezones, Tap Water And CostCo

Rahul Dua recently returned from his US tour. It being his first trip to Uncle Samland, fans who follow him on social media were treated to observational pearls of wisdom at regular intervals. But if you missed the train on those, Dua sahab has you covered. His latest video titled Timezones, Tap Water And CostCo serves as a highlight reel for all his takeaways from America.

In the 7-minute clip, the comedian tries to wrap his head around USA timezones and daylight savings time. What in the Christopher Nolan is going on there? He also can’t get used to drinking tap water and has some things to say about America’s DMart aka CostCo.

Skyler Higley – Doing Mushrooms and Watching the History Channel

Former Conan staff writer Skylar Higley’s standup routine popped up on our YouTube recommendations last week. We decided to give his new 10-minute set on Comedy Central’s YouTube a whirl and were delightfully surprised.

The comedian starts off a little strong with some political comedy but masterfully layers it with enough punches to make it palatable. After some sharp commentary about America’s political system, he moves on to everyone’s favourite perspective-changing drug: mushrooms. Add in some History Channel and you’re in for quite a ride.

Cristela Alonzo – This Is Not Happening

Comedy Cetral’s This Is Not Happening is a must-watch series for fans of standup comedy. Famous comedians come on to tell some very real personal stories only to drive one point home—no matter how messed up things might be, it makes for great material a few years on.

In this one clip (originally aired in 2015), American comedian Cristela Alonzo reveals her love for Jewish men, which is Ari Shaffir’s cue to walk in with all the swagger he could summon. A few laughs later, Alonzo gets to her story which features a comedian ex-boyfriend and his very suspicious activity on the plane. This one needs to be enjoyed sans spoilers so get to watching the video!
