In a Christmas miracle, Scottish comedian Daniel Sloss drops his fifth stand-up special, Hubris, just in time for you to win Secret Santa and make someone’s day (or ruin it, depending on who you’ve drawn).

Described as a show with no trigger warnings (shocked, I’m shocked—you shocked?), Hubris was possibly 2021’s biggest global comedy shows, outselling even some music festivals according to reports.

His previous specials Dark and Jigsaw (both on Netflix) became international hits, translated into 26 languages and streamed in 190 countries. His HBO special Daniel Sloss: X tackled some of the darkest themes with surgical precision, earning him a reputation as comedy’s most dangerous thinker.

Sloss spent three chaotic years creating Hubris, captured by cinematographer and friend Troy Edige. We’re talking kitchen-table brainstorming, pre-pandemic gigs in New York and LA, socially distanced shows in soggy London car parks, and a mandatory hotel quarantine in Sydney that would break lesser comedians. The whole thing finally landed in front of a masked audience in Glasgow’s SEC Armadillo in August 2021.

None of this is a surprise to his Indian fans, who know him all too well, and clearly love him for it. He debuted in India as the headliner at DeadAnt’s Laughing Dead festival, where tickets vanished faster than your will to live through holiday season. Earlier this year, he returned for DeadAnt Live’s Loop tour, delivering the biggest international comedy tour the country has seen with 10 shows in 10 days in eight cities.

Hubris isn’t here to spread joy. It’s here to remind you that joy is fleeting, stupidity is infinite, and we’re all probably doomed. But at least we can laugh about it.

Skip the socks and scented candles. Hubris is available exclusively on danielsloss.com for £10 (or US$10). Put a gift card (available on the site) under the tree and wish your Secret Santee a Happy Slossmas as the festive cheer drains from their face.
