The 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards are around the corner and this year’s ceremony will be hosted in-person once again. Emmy winning father-daughter duo Ron Cephas Jones and Jasmine Cephas Jones announced the long-awaited list of nominees on a livestream on 13 July.

Netflix’s The Crown and Disney+’s The Mandalorian are tied for the most nominations, bagging 24 each. After Netflix’s total domination at last year’s Emmy Awards with a whopping 160 nominations, this year the streaming giant lost out to rivals HBO Max with a narrow margin of 130 to 129.

The Comedy categories will see new winners this year with last year’s awardee Schitt’s Creek out of the running. The comedy series battle is between Apple TV+’s  Ted Lasso—which has earned itself 20 nominations making it the most nominated freshman comedy series in TV history—HBO Max’s The Flight Attendant and Hacks and ABC’s Black-ish. Netflix’s Emily In Paris, The Kominsky Method and Cobra Kai and Hulu’s Pen15 have also been nominated in the Best Comedy Series category.

Saturday Night Live alumni Kenan Thompson and Aidy Bryant received nods in the Best Supporting Actor/Actress as well as Lead Actor in a Comedy Series categories for their performances on SNL and their own shows Kenan and Shrill respectively. Meanwhile, Dave Chappelle and Bo Burnham fight it out with the likes of Hamilton and Friends: The Reunion in the Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) category.
