Unlike the Instagram trend, comedian Aashish Solanki is all set to listen and judge on his brand new format show Judge Me If You Can. The host will be joined by a panel of comedians whose aim will be to decode a complete stranger’s life, one question at a time. The contestants aren’t there to make things easy though. They have their own agenda because if they manage to throw the judges off their trail successfully seven times, they stand to win INR 50,000.

“It’s human nature to judge people,” Solanki told DeadAnt. “Hum log kisi ko dekhte hai aur apne dimaag mein ek perception banate hai. We wanted to play around with that tendency.”

This isn’t Solanki’s first format show rodeo. One of the early adopters of the format show boom, Solanki hosts the incredibly viral Roast Show. But that takes a lot of effort and planning. What he really wanted to do with Judge Me If You Can was create a fun, quick and easy to execute show that captures his spontaneity and quick wit. That’s when he took his manager Baneet Chhabra’s idea and fleshed it out along with his team.

“Roast banne mein paanch mahine lag jaate hain,” he told us. “I wanted to make a show that was a no-brainer for me and also allows me to showcase the personality that comes out when I’ve been on Madhur’s [Virli] show or Samay’s [Raina] show. I know I do that well. Toh main apna kuch aisa banana chah raha tha. That was the need of the show.”

Another itch that the show scratches for Solanki is his love for improv. During the trial runs of the show, he found himself going off script to mine the moment for laughs. “I really love going into a scene that I have no idea about,” he said. “We already know the script. But I love to go off it and challenge myself. And there’s so much suspense in the show given that we know nothing about the person. So there will be a lot of opportunities to do that. It’s just going to be me and my friends jamming together and having some fun.”

Lastly, but most importantly, the show fulfils the content needs of the algorithmic gods. That’s precisely why so many comedians are adopting the format show route, opined Solanki. “That’s how even crowd work started, right?” he added. “Zarurat nahi thi uski but we were trying to figure out how to post videos regularly. And then we figured out ki chaar funny log saath baithenge toh usmein se content niklega hi.”

With two horses in the format show race, Solanki keeps close tabs on what’s happening in the scene. But there’s one that he looks forward to in particular. “My favourite show is Relationsh!t Advice,” he told us. “I love what Raunaq Rajani is doing. He’s so funny and he handles the show in such a classy manner. I want to go on that show and we’ve tried to make it happen too. Hopefully it will soon. But it’s my favourite show for sure.”

Solanki and his team have announced four shows of Judge Me If You Can from 28-30 October in Noida. Guests for these shows will include Ravi Gupta, Shreya Priyam Roy, Yuvraj Dua, Madhur Virli, Chirag Panjwani, Kaustubh Agarwal, Shubham Gaur and Khushagra Srivastava.

Fans who can’t catch the show live can rest assured that these shows will be released on YouTube. After getting some initial feedback from his audience, the comedian plans on announcing another 5-6 shows. So make your way to catch the action live then!
