Comedian-actor Karthik Kumar is all set to take over the movie theatres this March. But this time he won’t be showing off his acting chops. In a first for Indian standup comedy, Karthik’s special Aansplaining will be “releasing in theatres in many cities across the world” on International Women’s Day (8 March), the comedian announced on Instagram today. “This poster means that something has changed for #StandupComedy for good,” he said in the caption.
With this experiment, Karthik is ushering in a new avenue for comedians in the country to showcase their material and make it available for people who might not have access to streaming platforms. Various international artists have already taken a step in this direction with Taylor Swift and BTS taking over the big screen with their concert films and comedian Bo Burnham’s special Inside being screened in theatres across the United States in 2021.
The locations for the screening are yet to be announced.
