Tony Hinchcliffe’s live podcast comedy format show Kill Tony is coming to Netflix, the streamer announced on Instagram. The show, which often tops the comedy charts on Apple Podcasts and Spotify, will get three exclusive specials on Netflix with the first one debuting on 7 April. In addition to these, Hinchcliffe will also tape an hour-long special as part of the deal.
Co-hosted by Hinchcliffe and Brian Redban, the show functions as a comedy hunt where up-and-coming comedians showcase their material during one-minute performances and are given brutally honest feedback by the panel of guest judges. Contestants who manage to impress the judges stand the chance to become a regular on the show. Joe Rogan, Shane Gillis, Bill Burr, Whitney Cummings and Russell Peters are some of the comedians who have been on the panel across the show’s 11-year-long run.
“Myself and our entire crew of Austin comedians, peers, and upcomers are excited for the opportunity to share our chaotic, insane show with a whole new chunk of the globe,” Hinchcliffe said in a statement. “It all started in a room at The Comedy Store with 12 audience members and barely anyone watching in 2013, after world tours and 700+ Monday releases on YouTube it seems the persistence has paid off and now to think that I can pull a name out of a bucket and that person will be performing standup and an improvised interview on the largest streaming service in the world is both exciting and frightening.”
Hinchcliffe was last seen on Netflix during the livestream of Tom Brady’s Roast. His set was one of the most shared ones on social media. The comedian had come under fire for a controversial joke about Peurto Rico that he performed at Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally leading up to the 2024 U.S. Presidential elections.
Indian comedians Samay Raina and Madhur Virli have developed shows inspired by Kill Tony, namely India’s Got Latent and Madhur Model.
