Comedian Munawar Faruqui finds himself in the news again, this time for losing his temper when a restaurant owner allegedly pelted him with eggs at an Iftar gathering he was invited to on 9 April. Sources claim that Faruqui drew the restaurant (Noorani Sweet Shop) owner’s ire when the comedian was invited to their eatery in Mumbai’s Minara Masjid area but chose to dine at a different location.

A video surfaced on social media in which Faruqui is seen being escorted by his security team as he loses his temper. Pydhonie Police have filed a case against and served notice to the six people involved including the restaurant’s owner, reported The Indian Express.

Last night, Faruqui went live on Instagram to share his statement on the incident. He claims that he was never the intended target. On the contrary, the altercation was taking place between the two restaurant owners and this irked him.

Jo dukandar the unke beech mein fight chal gayi thi,” Faruqui said during the Instagram Live. “Toh tumhara bhai thoda bhadak gaya tha unn chacha log ko dekh ke. Apne ko kaun marega. Main theek hoon. Mereko kisine anda wagairah nahi maara. Woh chacha the unko lag gaya aur ek officer wahan the unko bhi ek anda lag gaya. Woh dukandaron ke beech bahut jealousy hoti hai. Competitors jalte hai ek dusre se. Agar apne se koi jalte hai toh woh apne competitors hai hi nahi.” [The fight was between the restaurant owners. So I got irritated when I saw those two uncles fighting. I’m fine. Nobody threw eggs at me. One of the shopkeepers and an officer present at the location were hit by the eggs. There’s a lot of jealousy between these shopkeepers. They are competitors. If someone is jealous of me, they aren’t our competitors.”]

The Bigg Boss and Lock Upp winner is looking forward to his debut web-series appearance on the show First Copy. As an Eid present for his fans, Faruqui shared the teaser of the show on his social media accounts. The series is set in 1999 and tells the story of a film piracy racket.
