The nominations for the 82nd Golden Globes were announced on Monday morning during a press conference at the Beverley Hilton. The French musical Emilia Pérez starring Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez bagged a record-breaking 10 nominations, the highest of the evening, including nods for best comedy or musical, best director and best female actor in a supporting role for Selena Gomez. In addition to being noticed for her work on the silver screen, Gomez also scored a nomination for her role on Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building.

The Bear continued to dominate the TV division with five nominations, the most for any series this year. Netflix’s Baby Reindeer and Nobody Wants This added to the studio’s tally making it the most nominated media company this year. HBO Max’s Hacks also picked up three nominations for best television series, best performance by a female actor (Jean Smart) and best performance by a female actor in a supporting role (Hannah Einbinder).

This edition of the Golden Globes also marks the second year for the newly minted standup comedy category which recognises outstanding work from a comic in a traditional standup format. The category’s first award was given to Ricky Gervais for his Netflix special Armageddon in January this year.

Comedian Nikki Glaser is set to host the ceremony which will air on 5 January.
