Comedians Varun Thakur and Dolly Singh will star alongside Swara Bhaskar in upcoming Netflix dra-medy series Bhaag Beanie Bhaag, the streaming service announced earlier today. Bhaskar will play the role of Beanie, an aspiring standup comedian in Mumbai. The actress shared the news on social media, saying “Breathe Beanie Breathe ☮️ There’s method [to] Beanie’s maddness! I swear. Ok maybe not. You’ll find out soon enough as you watch her get life her together in the midst of all the mayhem.”

“My mum loves Netflix and always complained that I didn’t have a show or film on it,” Thakur told Dead Ant. “Now she’ll finally be happy.”

The series is part of a new slate of 17 Netflix Originals, including six new films and two new series. Ranging from thrillers to romantic comedies and dramas, these new properties will launch on the platform in the coming months. Monika Shergill, VP-Content at Netflix India, said in a statement that the platform was excited to share the new multi-format, multi-genre lineup. “We know our members have unique tastes, moods and needs—sometimes, they want to lean back and watch a delightful comedy, and at other times, they want a pulse-pounding thriller that brings them to the edge of their seats. We are so proud to bring these diverse stories created by acclaimed and emerging storytellers and producing partners.”

Bhaag Beanie Bhaag has been written by Neel Shah and Ravi Patel, who also stars in the series alongside Mona Ambegaonkar, Girish Kulkarni and others. Pushpavalli director Debbie Rao is also directing on the series, alongside Abi Varghese and Ishaan Nair. The synopsis for the series says: “Beanie has always done what’s asked of her—until she decides to run from her very comfortable life and pursue a career in stand-up comedy. As she navigates the demands of everyone from her concerned parents to her proposal-popping boyfriend, this is Beanie’s journey to carve out the life she wants for herself amidst the chaos.”
