Vir Das just won’t stop. The comedian has added one more “first” to his long list of achievements, this time landing a residency at the iconic Lincoln Center Theater in New York. Das will perform his newest show Hey Stranger—a show about “laughing together, reflecting together, and embracing our shared strangeness”—at the venue from 29 October to 9 November.
This residency is part of the Comedy Series, the result of a partnership between LCT3, a Lincoln Center Theater programming initiative dedicated to building new audiences and Seaview, a New York-based theatrical production company.
““There is nothing more exciting than being at the bottom of the ladder,” Das wrote on Instagram. “You’re surrounded by people better than you, you’re out of your comfort zone, and that pushes you to grow. For me, that’s always been Broadway.”
The iconic venue has been a host to legendary performers across the globe, including Indian greats such as Zakir Hussain, Bismillah Khan and Pandit Ravi Shankar.
“Following in the footsteps of legends like Ravi Shankar ji, Zakir Hussain ji, and M.S. Subbulakshmi ji is a responsibility in itself,” Das added. “Comedy may be different from classical music, but at its heart, it’s about connecting people across cultures and finding what we all share.”
The production will be directed by five-time Tony nominee Moritz von Stuelpnagel.
