A fish chasing an eagle. A cheetah hiding from its prey. A lizard channelling its inner Freddie Mercury. These aren’t flashes from an elaborate fever dream. These images actually exist and among the shortlist as the finalists for this year’s Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards.
Founded by conservationists and photographers Paul Joynson-Hicks MBE and Tom Sullam in 2015, the awards aim to celebrate our hilarious wild friends and promote the conservation of wildlife and their habitats. This year, there were nearly 9,000 entries from 98 countries, which will be accessed by a team of judges. The photographer who comes out on top wins a one-week safari with Alex Walker’s Serian in the Masai Mara, Kenya.
The winners will be announced on 10 December at an Awards Night in London followed by a free exhibition of all the finalists from 10-16 December at Gallery@Oxo. While we wait for that, weโve picked out 9 entries that made us go from โawwwwโ to โLOLOLOLโ in no time. Borrowing from the โIndian Teachers Insultโ manual, tell us which photograph made you โlaugh like a donkey.โ
