Comedian Amit Tandon will be part of an all-star lineup featuring international celebrities A.R. Rahman, Ed Sheeran and Mick Jagger at the We For India fundraiser for post-COVID relief in the country. Organised by London-based social impact enterprise The World We Want, the three-hour live-stream will be streamed on Facebook on 15 August at 7:30pm. Actor Rajkummar Rao will host the event which also features other Bollywood celebrities including Farhan Akhtar, Parineeti Chopra, Karan Johar, Imtiaz Ali and Vidya Balan.
The fundraiserโco-produced by Reliance Entertainmentโaims to raise Rs. 25 crore for the Give India foundation which will provide COVID-related essential facilities such as oxygen concentrators, cylinders, ventilators, essential medicines and ICU units. The funds will go towards supporting vaccination centres and families whose livelihoods have been affected due to the pandemic.
We For India will showcase various pre-recorded musical and standup comedy performances in addition to video messages of support from the celebrities, games, immersive fitness challenges and interactions with the frontline workers. Medical professionals will also share their experiences and highlight the urgent requirements to keep ourselves safe. The viewers will have the option to donate during the live-stream to aid the COVID-19 relief work and provide our doctors with vital equipment.
“It feels amazing to be part of such a lineup,” Tandon told DeadAnt. “It’s great to have your name along with such big artists, obviously. I didn’t expect it. When I signed up, I had no idea these are the people I’ll be working with. I’m really looking forward to this and hoping that we raise the target amount of money.”
