After the colossal success of Harpriya Bains’ YouTube debut video Carry on Mummy—which has amassed over 1.5 million views on YouTube and grew her Instagram following to 100k from a mere 1,300 in 18 days—the comedian is touring with her debut solo hour. Bains made the announcement in March with an Instagram post that read, “I don’t know if Carry on Mummy is officially a special but this show is definitely special to me.”

The mother of two obviously has a lot to say about the domestic life, of which we got a glimpse in her YouTube videos, and she’s further zooming in on the topic in her debut special. We caught up her as she was catching a breather halfway through the tour. She’s all kinds of excited about performing her first-ever hour-long show. Here’s all you need to know about it!

QUICK! WHAT’S THIS SHOW ABOUT?

Carry On Mummy is inspired by the daily lives of mothers and wives and my own mid-life crisis mom-ents (yes she did that). It’s my take on societal expectations from homemakers and highlights the absurdity of Indian patriarchy and the pressures faced by women in Indian households. It’s also about handling the chaos that comes with being a mother of two Gen-Z daughters.

HOW MANY SHOWS ARE YOU DOING, ACROSS HOW MANY CITIES?

The tour has 10 shows in 9 cities—4 done and 5 more to go in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Chandigarh and Patiala.

HOW LONG DID YOU SPEND WRITING THE SHOW?

Since this is my first one-hour set, it has taken the longest. More than the writing, the confidence to deliver it correctly on stage has taken longer. Some of the stories and jokes in this set are the ones that I have been working on since I started comedy 6 years ago.

IS THIS ALREADY LEADING UP TO A RECORDED SPECIAL FOR A STREAMING PLATFORM?

I believe everything is eventually leading up to something special. For now, I am enjoying the special journey. In short, not yet.

Because the content is raw, fresh and straight from the kitchen of a CEO H&M (cribbing exhausted overworked house wife and mother). And the secret ingredient is not love!
