Whether you love or hate sports, there’s no denying that the FIFA World Cup Final was one for the ages. Even the most uninterested contrarian was probably on the edge of their seat when Mbappe scored that third goal to level the scores. Needless to say, the adrenaline was high as we tried to get ourselves to sleep because, well… Monday. And as the sound of “ankara Messi, ankara Messi” refused to die down in our heads, we decided why not catch up on some of the new standup videos that were released over the week.
So here is the DeadAnt Weekly Roundup which was prepped last night so we can quietly take a nap in the afternoon. Uh, I mean, figure out the posts for the coming week. That’s what I meant dear Editor.
Azeem Banatwalla – Metro Manifestation
The pandemic is over. Or so we think… *shuts news tab of newly imposed lockdown in China*. The last two years were devastating to say the least. But you can count on Azeem Banatwalla to find some humour in it as well. We all know the famous saying… Tragedy mein comedy.
In his latest YouTube release, Banatwalla waxes poetic about the various Zoom backgrounds we saw over the course of our numerous online meetings which could all have been an email. Just saying. He’s particularly suspicious of the blurred backgrounds. What exactly are you hiding, sir? Watch the entire video to find out just how insufferable it is to brave Mumbai traffic because of the glorious upcoming metro.
Urooj Ashfaq – Instagram Compilation
We love it when we come across small snippets of standup comedy on Instagram. Crowd work, short jokes or just general awkward energy that was captured on camera. One account we always keep an eye on for this microdose of standup is Urooj Ashfaq’s. And the comedian was nice enough to compile all the clips into one and upload them to YouTube. Saves us the trouble of finding our favourite bits, again and again, you see.
How do you deal with a boyfriend’s misplaced (and newfound) confidence? How do you shut up a heckler? And finally, is it worth being a doctor? All of that and more in this new clip!
Mohit Morani – Taboo
It had been a minute since Mohit Morani had uploaded any standup to his YouTube channel. Well, the comedian changed that earlier this year by dropping yet another anecdotal clip. Over the last year, Morani has refined his craft and carved out his style which comes through in this 10-minute upload.
Morani tackles the age-old tradition of arranged marriages in the country while delivering the laughs in this one. And well, it’s doubly funny because the person at the centre of the marriage proposal is Morani. Watch for a great story, full with a beginning, middle and end and a Dadi who seems to be the one who starred in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.
Anubhav Singh Bassi – Bassi in UK & Europe (Part 2)
Gone are the days when we longed for an upload on Anubhav Singh Bassi’s YouTube channel. The comedian’s second home on the video platform called be_a_bassi is for all the fans who are looking for some crowd work, quick clips and interviews.
In this week’s upload, Bassi gives us the sequel to his UK & Europe tour. Taped at the Logan Hall in London, we get some insight into the comedian’s time in Amsterdam. And well, we all know what happens in Amsterdam. We get baked bake cookies. What did you think we were talking about? Also, how different is room service in hotels that are NOT in India? Watch the video to find out!
Mohd Suhel – Football
It’s no secret that Mohd Suhel is a fan of cricket. If you’ve been following the comedian closely, you also know that there’s a special relation between him uploading a story and India losing a wicket. But in his latest upload (the second of the week, might we add) Suhel’s taking aim at the most talked about sport in the world right nowโfootball.
He just can’t come to terms with the lack of technology in the sport. Why must a referee run behind the ball when we have cameras that can capture images of stars that are lightyears away from us? The comedian is making a case for the relaxing game of cricket against high-energy football. Check it out here!
