Another week of meeting deadlines, getting on Zoom calls and making presentations is upon us. And thanks to the coronavirus, you can’t even step out to have a nice meal or enjoy a drink at your favourite pub because everything shuts at 4pm and we aren’t in college anymore. But every cloud has a silver lining. Here’s a list of the best YouTube videos released this week which you can binge-watch from your couch while you wait for your Swiggy delivery.

In this week’s DA Weekly Roundup, we have Shashwat Maheshwari’s set on pets, pigeons and bhindi along with Mohd Suhel’s bite-sized clip about Baba Ramdev. Tanmay Bhat is back with his gang to react to some pretty awful pickup lines. Iliza Shlesinger’s clip is a nice flashback to 2009 and Jaspreet Singh talks about things he doesn’t like.

1. Shashwat Maheshwari – Kabootar (And Other Jokes)

Four months after his topical NCB Drug Raid videoโ€”which has hit a million viewsโ€”comedian Shashwat Maheshwari is back with a new standup clip. Shot during a show which has informally become the “yellow t-shirt wala show”, the comedian has put up a collection of four short jokes in Kabootar (and other jokes).

The video starts off with Maheshwari’s hot-take on one of India’s most polarising vegetables i.e bhindi. The comedian takes aim at his mother’s obsession with the dish before going into a strong observational set about parents. Excuse me, we meant “pet parents”. Maheshwari puts forward a strong (read funny) argument against the famous “adopt, don’t shop” slogan and shares his unique pet experience. Check out the entire clip to watch how Maheshwari uses a bird’s perspective to take some sly digs at Kanpur and some not-so-sly digs at the rodents of the skyโ€”pigeons. Talk about hitting two birds with one stone, amirite?

2. Mohd Suhel – Dr. Baba Ramdev

There’s absolutely no stopping Mohd Suhel. The comedian has been putting out new videos like clockwork, and we couldn’t be happier. Yes, we know they’re only 2-minute clips but after the year-long standup comedy drought on YouTube, we’ll take what we can get.

In his second upload this week titled Baba Ramdev, the comic makes some jokes that will “land him in jail”. In this bite-sized political set, the comedian sheds light on the oxygen shortage that the country faced during the gruesome second COVID-19 wave and the ingenious solution that was put forward by the government’s most qualified spokesperson on the matterโ€”Baba Ramdev. A solution that could be put in the “no shit, Sherlock” hall of fame, Suhel uses it to his advantage in this hilarious clip. But the comic was scared to put out these jokes and it was not because of the trolling. What was it then? Watch the entire clip to find out!

3. Tinder Chats Review – Tanmay Bhat

In the second installment of Tinder Chats Review, “provider” Tanmay Bhat is joined by “rider” Nishant Tanwar, “subscriber” Aishwarya Mohanraj, “advertiser” Vishal Dayama and “humidifier” Pavitra Shetty to react to some bad pickup lines and savage replies. Having hit 1.4 million views in 24 hours, the video will have you sympathising with anyone who has to deal with the rigmarole of online dating. And if not that, you can always enjoy some lighthearted and wholesome humour in the middle of your hectic workday.

Bad puns, unhelpful dating advice and Tanmay’s Tinder strategyโ€”you’ll get it all in this 16-minute clip. So tune in for some quick laughs.

4. Iliza Shlesinger – Good Luck Punching a Shark

In this blast from the past, Comedy Central recently uploaded a clip from Iliza Shlesinger’s performance on Live From Gotham way back in 2009! Shot just a year after the comedian had won NBC’s Last Comic Standing, it’s great to see Shlesinger’s older material and see how much she has evolved to have five (?!) Netflix comedy specials to her name.

In the 5-minute clip, Shlesinger digs deep into her obsession with America’s annual week-long TV show dedicated to sharks titled Shark Week (oh, so original) and the physical limitations to punching one of the most ferocious aquatic predators underwater. The comedian achieves the unimaginable by listing all the positives to going out sober with friends. Now, that’s the greatest “glass-half-full” argument we’ve heard in ages. We know you have your doubts. So watch the clip and decide if you agree with Shlesinger for yourself.

5. Jaspreet Singh – Sab Dekh Liya?

Jaspreet Singh has finally dropped the fourth episode of Jassi Doesn’t Like It. In the series, the comedian talks about the things that he doesn’t like (duh)โ€”be it Bollywood films, thugs in cars or trollsโ€”while dishing out some laughs. In the latest episode, the comedian talks about something that is universally relatableโ€”the massive amount of “content” that is uploaded on the internet everyday.

In the 12-minute video, Singh holds a mirror up to society by talking about the like-farming and social media competition that we’re all a part of now. As the definition of a “content creator” becomes vaguer by the day, the comic makes some poignant points about the recycling of content on the internetโ€”reels, reaction videos, you name it. Our dwindling attention spans are easily distracted by the song that has been trending on Instagram or the show that everybody’s talking about, barely giving us the time to have an original thought. Watch the entire video to find out which Black Mirror-esque sport Singh thinks will take over the Olympics.
