DA Weekly Roundup: Standup Comedy Clips That Made Us Pause Our SRK Fanboying For A Minute

Spread the love

This last week has been a high-octane rollercoaster. Well, for the people living under a rock (or in front of a video game screen), the universally appointed King of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, made a long-awaited comeback to the big screen with his movie Pathaan. There was a lot of drama leading up to the release, which may or may not have anything to do with the colour of a bikini. Even more when it became the fastest film to cross INR 250 crore. There was also a certain documentary about our lord and saviour and a probe into how the third richest man in the world amassed all his wealth stirring up the nation. You see, we didn’t name any names because let’s face it… we don’t want to go down like the Hindenburg (we’re talking about the German plane, just FYI).

After this week that might as well be sponsored by Redbull, we’re here to offer you some much-needed relaxation. So push back that backrest, grab yourself a nice cold beverage and press play on the DeadAnt Weekly Roundup. We’ve got the best standup clips to hit YouTube for you right here, all in one place.

Shreeja Chaturvedi – Princess

Praise the heavens, another Shreeja Chaturvedi video is here! Indian comedy’s sassiest, deadpan-est (yes, we just made deadpan a superlative) and zehereliest comedian, Chaturvedi has finally treated us to a slightly longer video after teasing us with snippets from her material.

Titled Princess, Chaturvedi tells us about the royal upbringing she had (or so she was led to believe). Do you blame her? Every parent claims their child is special. We can’t fault the comedian for falling for her parents’ little ruse. But there’s one thing that Indian parents love more than their own progeny and that is their electrical appliances. What happens when Chaturvedi points out the numerous shortcomings of the Rajkumar Godrej Fridge III? Watch to find out!

One of Indian standup’s OGs, Naveen Richard, made a comeback to the YouTube standup scene after almost two years! We last saw him in action during his standup special Relatively Relatable. And well, all of us know what the next two years were like, so let’s not get into that. Some memories are best repressed. He got in touch with his spiritual and religious side during the time. You can check out more about his learnings in this episode of the DeadAnt Chatroom.

His first offering in two years, Naveen is leaning towards cleaner comedy now, as he said in his interview. In this video, the comedian is talking about RT-PCR tests and the vaccine. Everyone can relate to that, right? The best part about seeing him back in action is treating ourselves to the same infectious and loveable energy he’s always had on stage. Some things will (and should) never change!

Rajasekhar Mamidanna – Based On A True Incident

Rajasekhar Mamidanna is one of the most consistent comedians we have. The Hyderabad-based comic has been serving us fresh videos month after month and that isn’t going to change in 2023. His first upload of the year, Mamidanna is dabbling in some crowd work in this 10-minute clip.

He’s pushed himself into a corner by getting into an age-guessing game with a woman. There are some concerned audience members advising him against it. But where’s the comedy in making sound decisions? And that’s not all. He’s also sharing a very real incident with us. Watch the video for a hilarious hostel story intercut with Mamidanna trying to convince a very supportive audience member to move to Hyderabad.

Niv Prakasam – Fake Accents

The new year is to take up new things. To explore unknown territories. And Niv Prakasam is doing just that by making her YouTube debut. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Niv’s work though. The winner of TLC’s Queens of Comedy, she has also appeared on the Netflix multi-comedian special Ladies Up.

In her first video on YouTube, Niv is sharing her very unique school experience with us. It’s scary enough to move continents without any prior warning, let alone be put into a classroom full of judgemental kids. You know how they are… they’re going to pick up on everything that’s different about you and make fun of it. For Niv, it was her accent. How did she deal with it? Hear it from the comedian herself.

Aman Jotwani – Family Business

In another first, Comicstaan season 3 finalist Aman Jotwani has thrown his hat into the YouTube ring. That’s good for us because going by his clip, it was either this or sticking around at his dad’s family business.

Jotwani’s experience of working for his dad was slightly different from Wake Up Sid. His dad wanted him to pursue an extremely unique degree. An MBA in… family business. Yes, we looked it up and it’s an actual degree. We couldn’t describe it better than Jotwani, even if we tried. We’re going to leave it to him to do all the talking.
