Half the year has already gone by. This week too will pass in the blink of an eye. Time is fleeting and all you can do is wait for the sweet release of death. Yes, we’ve taken Kanan Gill’s special a little too seriously. But we’re coping with the existential dread by doom-scrolling on YouTube (not Amazon, you need money for that). In the process, we came across the latest comedy videos. They’re funny and distracted us long enough to enjoy a few laughs. And just like that, one more DeadAnt Weekly Roundup was born. You should check it out. Or don’t. In the words of the great Shri Shri Salman Khan, “Do what you want, man.” But mostly you should.
Fatima Ayesha – Women
Everybody thinks their mom is the best cook on the planet. We proudly boast about our mother’s best dishes, promising our friends dabbas of life-changing food, but never really giving it to them. Sometimes these false promises are actually a blessing in disguise. Because, reality check, every mother is not the best cook. Fatima Ayesha comes from that unfortunate corner of the world. The comedian grew up thinking that is how all food tastes. Until one day she tasted her friend’s tiffin and realised she was living a lie. The irony is, Ayesha’s mom watches a lot of cooking videos. And the instructions are not always clear. Check out the full video for bad recipes, instructions on how to give your mom feedback and tips to travel with parents.
Vivek Samtani – Thank You, Mom and Dad
A couple of Indian comedians have dropped their specials in the last week. Kanan Gill ended his three-year hiatus with Is This It? Aakash Mehta dropped his second comedy special Nasty. And Vivek Samtani debuted his half-hour special on YouTube as well. The comedian has been regularly performing, recording and dropping videos for the last year. He’s finally put together a solid 30-minutes of jokes which is available on his YouTube channel. Samtani is telling us the story of how his parents met. In the process, he’s making some great jokes about patriarchy, women’s rights in India and dated traditions. Check it out now!
Jasmeet Singh Bhatia – Middle Class Foreign Trip
Jasmeet Singh Bhatia is a familiar face on the Indian internet. We’ve regularly seen him on TVF’s YouTube channel, playing comedic roles and characters to perfection. But this week, we see another facet of Bhatia’s personality as he takes on the standup comedy stage. To start things off, the comedian has a lot to say about Punjabi names. Especially his own. Let’s just say, he’s met at least a 100 people with the same name. In the last year. He goes on to describe his father’s biggest pet peeveโseeing him relaxing and doing nothing. His father’s taken the saying, “An idle mind is the devil’s workshop” a little too seriously. Watch the full video to find out how he deals with it and a great story about his first time travelling abroad.
Peeyush Kumar – Bewkoof
No matter where you are in the country, the roads are always plagued by one thingโscooty drivers. They zip around, shoehorning themselves into the tiniest spaces and are constantly honking. Comedian Peeyush Kumar belongs to that category. He’s self-aware of the annoyance he causes people. He’s heard a lot of colourful language being hurled his way while he’s been on the road. Scooter drivers are also extremely innovative. They find ways to dodge the rain, avoid traffic and install speakers on their glorified bicycles. All of this and more in this video. Click play!
Jeff Dean – Sl*t Shaming and Toxic Masculinity
Are you one of those people who checks a movie’s rating on Rotten Tomatoes before you actually watch it? Jeff Dean is one of those people. Well, guess who doesn’t care about those ratings? Adam Sandler. Dean’s done an in-depth study about Sandler’s career and he’s got some things to say about him and his movies. He’s also got his aim on the internet’s latest crazeโslut shaming and toxic masculinity. You know, the two main things that Andrew Tate indulges in. Check out the video now!
