Hasan Minhaj might have missed out on the chance to take over The Daily Show¸ but the 38-year-old comedian still has plenty of things to say (and questions to ask). The Patriot Act star has just launched his own online talk show—titled Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know—on YouTube, kicking the series off with a half-hour sit-down with American senator Elizabeth Warren where the two debate whether Joe Biden is too old to remain President.

Premiering on Monday, the inaugural episode featured plenty of zingers aimed at Biden’s advanced age, with Minhaj joking that “one of the benefits of President Biden being the president is that we don’t have to argue about whether or not he can drive.” There were also some hard questions on the lacklustre political messaging coming out of the Democrat camp, and whether members of the US Congress should be allowed to buy and sell stocks.

Minhaj will be filming and releasing more episodes of the show in the run-up to the 2024 US presidential election. For Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know, the comedian has reunited with Prashanth Venkataramanujam, showrunner of Patriot Act, who now serves as the Chief Content Officer for Minhaj’s production company 186K Films. Scott Vrooman—writer on Patriot Act—also returns, this time as showrunner.

Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know is the comedian’s first real step back into the limelight after the scandal that followed a New Yorker magazine profile last year, which focused on alleged falsehoods in his standup comedy. That controversy is believed to have scuttled his chances to become host of The Daily Show after Trevor Noah’s departure.

“We’ve all failed in our lives,” Minhaj said recently at the Netflix Is A Joke festival, addressing the controversy. “But have you ever failed so bad, you bring back Jon Stewart? I saved a dying institution. You’re welcome.”
