Comedy stalwarts Johnny Lever and Saurabh Shukla are all set to star in Disney+ Hotstar’s upcoming comedy Pop Kaun, and the streaming platform just dropped a teaser video for the show. In the short clip, the two comedians parody the post-credits scene from Shah Rukh Khan’s phenomenally successful comeback vehicle Pathaan, and poke a little fun at Kapil Sharma in the process.
In the original post-credits scene, a tired Pathaan and Tiger (Salman Khan reprising his role from Ek Tha Tiger and Tiger Zinda Hai) are sitting on a train track. The two men discuss retirement and spend some time wondering who will succeed them, but eventually decide that they can’t leave the country’s fate in the hands of children.
The cheeky meta commentary in the bit—hinting at the fact that the two Khans are still Bollywood’s biggest star talents decades into their careers—was loved by audiences and film critics. Lever and Shukla, both comedy veterans of their own, recreate the scene in the context of their own potential retirement and who they can pass the mantle to. After plenty of hemming and hawwing—including a good-natured dig at the one who “calls celebrities on TV”—they decide they need to keep going.
Pop Kaun is a comedy show created by Farhad Samji, who has directed films such as Housefull 4 and upcoming Salman Khan starrer Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan. The show also features Satish Kaushik, Rajpal Yadav, Chunky Panday, Jaime Lever, Kunal Kemmu, Nupur Sanon, Zakir Hussain and Ashwini Kalsekar.
