Comedian and actor Sumukhi Suresh has signed on to Karan Johar and Bunty Sajdeh’s talent management agency Dharma Cornerstone Agency (DCA), joining a roster that includes Bollywood stars Ananya Pandey, Janhvi Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan and Aditya Roy Kapur. “Welcoming everybodyโs favorite funny girl, and the the multi-faceted OG @sumukhisuresh into #DCASquad,” the agency wrote in an Instagram post announcing the news. “Quite simply, when it comes to humour, few match her skill or enjoy her reach.”
“DCA makes sense for all the hats I wear: standup comedian, actor, writer and director,” Sumukhi told DeadAnt. “They are excited about mobilising all these skills and also taking forward the most important oneโmy entrepreneurial side. [Sumukhi’s women-centred content company] Motormouth writers will benefit the most from this professional relationship and my writers and I are looking forward to that.”
Talking about this move to DCA, she said, “A shakeup was inevitable. And when I met Kim [Sharma, her manager at the agency] from DCA I knew she was determined to prove a point. And I was sure I wanted to be the ‘point’.”
The comedianโwho had a stellar 2023 with multiple sold-out 1,000-seater shows of her special Hoemonalโalready has a bunch of projects in the pipeline for 2024. “I just finished shooting for a show in which I was acting,” she said. “Three very funny web-series are ready to be shot as well and we may choose a risquรฉ path to make it happen.”
This new partnership allows her to channel all her energy into her work and let her team handle the logistics. “I am looking forward to doing less,” she said. “To focus more on what I am good atโacting, performing and writingโand let Kim, Rajeev and Manu takeover the rest of the chores and think bigger for me!”
“It is my dream to work with Karan Johar and I will make it happen,” Sumukhi had said in an interview with Indian Express in 2022. “I am not even manifesting it. I know I am going to do it.” And here she is.
“This step is making me excited, nervous and most importantly raring to go,” she told DeadAnt before signing off. “Requesting all ants at DeadAnt to keep their fingers crossed.”
