Comedian Sumukhi Suresh revealed on Instagram last night that she’s part of the all-star cast for Netflix’s new ‘royalty rom-com’ series The Royals. The show’s lineup also includes veteran actor Zeenat Aman, Ishaan Khatter, Bhumi Pednekar—who makes her web-series debut with this role—Chunky Panday and Nora Fatehi.
“2024 for me started with acting in this insanely massively beautiful show with the juiciest ensemble ever,” Sumukhi wrote on Instagram. “#Royals by @pritishnandycommunications @rangitapritishnandy @ishitapritishnandy has been the most unexpected gift I have received. The story of how I got to do this, is something @kimsharmaofficial @panchamighavri and I will talk about forever.”
Directed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana, the series follows the romance between “an entitled Prince Charming” (played by Khattar) and a “startup whiz” (played by Pednekar).
The comedian has previously proven her mettle as an actor with her performances in Pushpavalli and Better Life Foundation, so it’s exciting to see what she brings to the new show. The release date for the eight-episode series is yet to be announced.
This marks another big win for Sumukhi, who recently finished her run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe where she was performing her latest critically acclaimed hour Hoemonal. Earlier this year she signed with Karan Johar’s Dharma Cornerstone Agency. She has also written the dialogues for Vikramaditya Motwane’s digital age thriller CTRL starring Ananya Panday.
