Andy Bernard from The Office once said, “Check out this sunshine, man. Global warming, right? Today was supposed to be really cold I bet.” However hilarious that statement might be, there is some truth to it. The world is facing a major climate crisis. And to battle and protest against it, actor Rainn Wilson, who played Dwight Schrute on the incredibly popular sitcom, has… changed his name. Channelling pure Michael Scott energy, the actor has gone ahead and renamed himself Rainnfall Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson across social media to raise awareness for the climate crisis we are currently facing. 

A board member of the environmental organisation Arctic Basecamp whose aim is to “raise awareness of the global risks of Arctic weather change”, Wilson posted a video on his Twitter account to make the announcement.

“What happens in the Arctic, doesn’t stay in the Arctic,” Wilson said in his video. “As the polar caps melt, it drives up risks throughout the world, including extreme weather events that affect all of us. As a cheap little stunt to help save planet Earth, I’ve changed my name on Twitter, Instagram and even on my fancy writing paper,” he continued. 

Wilson also urged others in the entertainment industry to follow pursuit and highlight the issues with climate change as world leaders have gathered for the United Nations COP27 international climate change conference in Egypt. He’s also full of suggestions to get people on board with “Cardi The Arctic B Melting”, “Amy Poehler Bears Are Endangered”, “Jack Black Carbon Is Killing Us”, and “Samuel Earth’s Getting Hot As L. Jackson”.
