Did you know Sam Jay once tracked sperm shipments across the country as part of her job? Or that Adam Sandler’s first real comedy bit was actually a joke his father made mocking his mother? Netflix’s new videoโtitled Hey, Remember Comedy?โis full of fun little tidbits like that. The 22 minute video, which features practically every major comedy name on the Netflix catalogue, kicks off the platform’s partnership with non-profit Comedy Gives Back to provide COVID-19 emergency relief grants to black, indigenous, and people of colour (BIPOC) comedians.
Hey, Remember Comedy? is hosted by Neal Brennan, and also features virtual appearances by Adam Sandler, Amy Schumer, Bert Keischer, Bill Burr, Chris Rock, Ellen DeGeneres, David Letterman, Hannah Gadsby, Eric Andre, Hasan Minhaj and over a dozen other comics.
The Comedy Gives Back Covid-19 BIPOC Stand Up Comedian Fund will provide $500 grants to BIPOC comics who have lost gigs and income due to the COVID-19 shutdown. Comedy Gives Back is a non-profit dedicated to providing “mental health, medical, and crisis support” to comics in need.
