If you have a phone, thumbs and like to scroll through Instagram, odds are you’ve seen Aanchal Agrawal. If you’ve enjoyed her work and want a bigger dose of it, you need to check her out on the standup comedy stage. The comedian is currently touring North America but will be back in the motherland soon enough for her 35-city tour from 7 July to 17 September. She has a brand new hour titled Chord Do Aanchal and we, your trusted comedy insiders, got in touch with her to know more about her show, how she’s been dealing with the nerves and how auntyji is doing. (#IYKYK)
Quick! Whatโs this show about?
The show is about growing up in a middle-class Marwadi–baniya family and my fatherโs drug addiction and how he overcame it.
How many shows are you doing, across how many cities?
I am doing around 35 shows as per the current calendar, 31 in India, 3 in Canada and 1 in London.
How long did you spend writing the show?
Donโt remember honestly, some jokes have been with me for years and some I built on stage over the past few years.
Is this already leading up to a recorded special for a streaming platform?
I donโt know about that. I would be putting my videos on YouTube June onwards. Letโs see how that goes. Hoping for the best.
Why should we watch it live?
Because standup is an art form best enjoyed live. In the videos, some things are cut out to make it tight. Watching it live will give you a full experience of what my story is. I believe itโs very interesting and I hope itโs just as funny (and dark lol).
According to you, who would be the ideal plus-one to bring to the live show?
Parents lol. I think theyโll really enjoy my show.
How did you come up with the name โChord do Aanchalโ?
I was thinking of what is it that people tell me often. When they see me, they have a cheesy line about my dimples and when they hear my name they go, โchord do Aanchal,โ so I named it Chord do Aanchal.
On a scale of 1-WTFAMIDOING, how nervous are you?
I am not nervous at all.
Is this your first tour?
This is my second tour, I did my first India tour in March-April 2023.
Last but not the least, mummy kaisi hai?
Mummy khush hai, mast hai, jabardast hai. And excited hai for my YouTube video.
