Comedian Aashish Solanki announced his first solo Good Boy, Better Show in September 2019. A little over two years later, he marked his fifth year in the comedy industry with an Instagram post that said “5 very well spent years doing what I love. I had good and bad days but one thing that was constant was the love I received from my fellow comics […] To the audience, BIG ANNOUNCEMENT coming in a week.”
The big announcement in question was his participation on Amazon Prime Video’s comedy reality show Comicstaan. But by the end of the month he had an even bigger announcementโhe won! In no time at all, Solanki became a regular face on the comedy circuit, performing gig after gig in cities across North India. Now, the comedian is looking to give the entire country a taste of his talent, bringing back his solo show Good Boy, Better Show for a new 21-city tour! He’s punched up his old jokes and included newer ones to round off this family-friendly hour. Read on to get the full scoop.
Quick! Whatโs this show about?
The show is mostly about my experiences with my family and observations about their behaviour that has shaped me. Meri frustration ka reason pata chal jayega basically.
How many shows are you doing, across how many cities?
30 shows in 21 cities.
How long did you spend writing the show?
I have been working on this for the last two to three years. Some bits are even older. This is my first standup solo and has all my initial good jokes.
Is this already leading up to a recorded special for a streaming platform?
Noooooo. I donโt want to put it out as a special. I like putting out YouTube videos rather than the whole special.
How did you come up with the name ‘Good Boy, Better Jokes’?
All my friends, relatives say that I maintain the image of a good boy.
So I perform from that POV only.
And out of all my jokes, these ones were better.
Why should we watch it live?
Because I want to make money. Lol. No, because you have not seen a funnier clean comedy show till now.
According to you, who would be the ideal plus-one to bring to the live show?
ANYONEEEEE because itโs clean and family-friendly. But I would love it if you bring your parents along. They deserve to laugh.
On a scale of 1 โ WTFAMIDOING, how nervous are you?
Not nervous at all. I have been travelling with this solo for last one year now. So I know the rhythm, the flow and my strengths.
Do you have any pre-show rituals?
I stop talking to people around me before going on stage. I just want to be present mentally.
What’s the one similarity between being a comedian and a teacher?
I still stand in front of people who have paid money and tell them things that they donโt know.
