A 12th standard topper turned engineering dropout, Haseeb Khan has tried his hand at a bunch of things before realising standup comedy was his calling. He dabbled in dancing, singing and even tried teaching in a school. He might have fallen short of all these challenges but when it comes to making people laugh, Khan always brings his A-game.
He first went viral on YouTube with his debut video titled Main Karachi se Hoon, which has amassed over 12 million views now. He even appeared on the television show India’s Laughter Champion judged by Archana Puran Singh and Shekhar Suman and Goodnight India hosted by Amit Tandon and Jiya Shankar.
Since finding success on television, Khan turned his attention towards building his standup special. He’s announced one more leg of his Dropout tour, an hour Khan has been working on and fine-tuning for the last two years. Read through to know all about his latest special, where you can watch it and which biryani is his favourite.
Quick! Whatโs this show about?
Dropout is about a comedian whoโs been through it all. From the awkwardness of teenage years to the challenges of young love, the show dives deep into the funny, embarrassing, and sometimes frustrating moments that we all experience. It’s a mix of personal anecdotes and witty observations that’ll remind you of your own unforgettable school and relationship stories.
How many shows are you doing, across how many cities?
I am doing over 50+ shows in 35+ cities.
How long did you spend writing the show?
This show has been built over the course of two years. I didn’t really write it consciously. I kept performing and the jokes got added show by show. In the beginning, it was a short storytelling set but now it’s a 90-minute-long special.
Will you be recording this show and releasing it online?
I have already recorded this show and will release some parts of it on YouTube soon.
Why should we watch it live?
Live shows are a completely different experience. If you enjoy my comedy online, then you will get five times the fun when you listen to the jokes live. They’re all completely different jokes and not a single one of them is available anywhere. It is a completely exclusive and fun show.
According to you, who would be the ideal plus-one to bring to the live show?
Your best friend or your date. You can even bring your parents along. After all, it is a family-friendly show.
Why are you calling this show ‘Dropout’?
Because it’s about me who dropped out from everywhere. From two colleges, from engineering and from other professional careers. In the show, I talk about the experiences I had during those days.
On a scale of 1 โ WTFAMIDOING, how nervous are you?
WTFAMIDOING. I am very nervous every time before I go up on stage. That feeling lasts until I get some good laughs and I realise that the audience has started liking me.
Which biryani is the best according to you?
Bhopali biryani. It’s amazing whether it is chicken or mutton. I love it. Apart from Bhopal I love Hyderabadi biryani.
A comedian you’ve seen recently who you would like to give a shoutout to?
Naman Arora. I saw him on Samay Rainaโs India’s Got Latent. Very funny guy.
