After a couple of years of reacting to memes, playing video games (Elden Ring really broke him), watching F1 and dishing out movie and book recommendations, Joshi is hitting the road with his latest standup hour Almost There. A trial show that he has been working on for the last year-and-a-half, this is his slow but steady return to form after a brief hiatus. The comedian is visiting Bengaluru and Pune first but has promised to hit up “every goddam city” this year. Prisoner OP has finally broken out! Elden Ring is easy. Getting off the couch after it’s done is the hard part for a sloth like me.
WHAT’S IT BEEN LIKE TO WORKSHOP MATERIAL AFTER ALL THIS WHILE? IS IT LIKE RIDING A BICYCLE OR MORE LIKE ENGINEERING MATHS?
More like riding a bicycle but also like moving to a bigger, more complicated bike with gears and things, on terrain that’s changed drastically since the last time I was on a cycle.
WHAT’S THE SHOW ABOUT?
At this point its a collection of fun bits and jokes and (hopefully) a slight shift in perspective and the joys of age. Also, GST.
HOW LONG DID YOU TAKE TO WRITE THIS MATERIAL?
About a year-and-a-half and its still an ongoing process.
HOW MANY SHOWS ARE YOU DOING, ACROSS HOW MANY CITIES?
I don’t have a set plan yet. I don’t see this as something with a set cut off. I want to take this to as many cities as I can, and just get as much stage time as possible. I’m rusty and I don’t want to pretend I’m not or take the audience for granted. So TL;DR, many cities, many times. This is the year of going to standup gym.
